A fabulous specimen of brilliant luster and modified octahedral crystals to 6mm. Many of the crystals display a cavernous growth habit. It is strongly magnetic with a black streak. The original labels called this Hematite, and it is definitely not. Vesuvius is the type locality for this member of the spinel group.
