According to the USGS 2015 Commodity report, bismuth was used in principally in pharmaceutical production and accounted for two thirds of U.S. consumption. Bismuth compounds were also used in superconductors and pearlescent pigments for cosmetics and paints. China has evidently developed a low-melting-point bismuth alloy which can be used in 3D printing.
