A typical pegmatite specimen of "watermelon" tourmaline with an outer edge of green elbaite and a core of elbaite variety rubellite" and reflects the changing composition of the pegmatite fluid as mineral phases crystallize. The crystal of tourmaline is 3.5cm across. I am not sure what the yellow spot is, perhaps beryl.
