Thin purplish Axinite crystals to 8mm set on edge covering one side of matrix. The Ward's label with this piece mentions that it fluoresces orange and it does, but only faintly under shortwave.
Full disclosure, for some reason I'm somewhat sceptical about whether or not this specimen is from Franklin. The matrix is a fine grained greenish Chloritic Schist without any of the typical Franklin associates. Also, from the resources I've looked at the Axinite at Franklin is orange, the Mn variety, not this purple. However, I'm far from a Franklin expert and could very well be wrong, maybe you Franklin nuts out there could set me straight, but I have to trust my inner mineral sense.
Correction, this is actually a specimen of Diaspore from Chester, Mass.
