Chalcopyrite in Quartz with Azurite and Malachite.
Interest in the Encampment area for mining began in 1876 veins of Quartz carrying silver, lead, and gold was discovered Frank O. Williams on Bridger group of claims near the Continental Divide several miles north of Encampment. The largest producer was the Farris-Haggarty mine which produced rich ore of copper from 1898 to 1902, when it was purchased by the North American Copper Company who produced copper concentrates and operated a 16 mile aerial tramway to the Ferris-Haggerty mine. This specimen was collected from the old millsite at the mine. It contains 1 to 2cm Chalcopyrite anhedral crystals in Quartz.
