A nodular mass with a yellowish core and outer reddish rim. The deposit was discovered in 1887 and is a fractionated or zoned pegmatite mined for Gadolinite. 

Yttrium was first recognized as a new element in 1794 by chemist Johan Gadolin. The element is used in alloys and in high-tech glass which is heat and shock resistant.
