The specimen dates back to 1968, when it was obtained by Hampson. The specimen contains nothing but Covellite in 2cm thin plates in no particular orientation.

Covellite occurs in the zone of secondary enrichment. It is actually rare in most Colorado districts. At Summitville, it is the most abundant secondary copper minerals. Reports show that solid masses up to 6 inches thick were found in the Golconda vein.
