Here are seven individual long crystals of Rutile. Each, except for one, are nicely terminated and all show dark red to cherry translucency depending upon their thickness. The longest is 4.8cm long (which is the dimension given below). The vertical groups were photographed as the crystals were placed in putty. Obviously they are not grown from matrix! These crystals were collected by the late Delmer Brown of Custer, SD. Delmer and Wensell Wilson co-authored an article in the Mineralogical Record about the Rist mine (V32 Mar/April 2001).
