Galena is the most common and widespread ore of Lead with 86.6% Pb. Lead is soft, heavy and malleable. Large quantities were mined from Mississippi Valley deposits, such as the Tri-State mines.  About 66% of lead is used lead-acid storage batteries. Lead and its compounds are cumulative poisons.
