It is amazing how many different forms and habits Hematite takes on. It is a common mineral of course, but crystals such as those from alpine regions of Switzerland and France are highly coveted. When Hematites crystallizes it can have a mirror-like quality as in those from the Wessels mine. Botryoidal habit, otherwise known as "kidney ore" is found in Cumbria, England. This Hematite, from Rio Marina, shows yet a different habit. These crystals, which measure from 5 to 15mm are discoidal and striated. It's a fascinating specimen much like silvery poker chips some in parallel growth.
