Sample of a Pyroxenite, a general name given to a rock composed primarily of one or more Pyroxene minerals, which presumably contains microscopic Platinum Group Metals including Platinum and Palladium. Although I couldn't find much on the Zwartsfontein locality itself, according to the USGS Mineral Yearbook 2009 South Africa produced 79% of the world's Platinum and produced 271,393 kg of PGM's in 2009 amounting to some $6.3 billion USD.
