Mineralpedia Details for Monazite
Monazite from Brown Derby mine, Quartz Creek Pegmatite dist., Gunnison Co., Colorado, United States
Brick red well-formed crystals. One of the larger crystals may indeed be formed with an intergrowth of Quartz, much like feldspar and quartz typically found in pegmatites, such as this locality. The Brown Derby pegmatite is a rare-earth pegmatite with besides Monazite also has Euxenite, pyrochlores, microlites, pollucite, Col-Tan, srtibiotantalite and alot of other good pegmatite minerals. I do not know if this Monzaite it at the Sm or Ce end, probably bot. The specimen number matches the label.
Any pegmatite collector should have one of these and it is a fine specimen.
