Named to honor Brazilian mineralogist and geologist Dr. Luciano Jacques de Moraes. Moraesite is a rare mineral that occurs as a “late-stage hydrothermal mineral in complex zoned pegmatites.” It occurs in localities including Brazil, the United States, France, Finland, Russia, and Australia among just a couple others. Moraesite occurs in association with beryl, beryllionite, hydroxylherderite, frondelite, triphylite, apatite, and muscovite.
