Mineralpedia Details for Pyroxmangite
Pyroxmangite
Named for the amalgamation of the words pyroxene (pyrox) and manganese (mang), in reference to Pyroxmangite’s composition and structure. Only a handful of localities host Pyroxmangite “in regionally metamorphosed manganese ore deposits and manganiferous rocks.” Interestingly, the type material for Pyroxmangite collected from Iva, South Carolina in the United States has since been redefines at pyroxferroite whith which Pyroxmangite forms a series.

Pyroxmangite from Molinello mine, Graveglia Valley, Liguria, Italy
Creamy orange or micro platy crystals in aggregate across face. Two mines produced Pyroxmangite in the Graveglia Valley area according to Marchesini & Pagano (MR v. 32, p. 349). These were this mine and the Gambatesa mine.
Pyroxmangite from Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia
Large fragment of cleavable deep red Pyroxmangite with coarse Galena.
Pyroxmangite from Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Red cleavage fragment.
