This is a little known locality from Philipsburge, Montana. Behind the old town is a large district which produced manganese, one of the largest in the country.  This mine, as with some others in the district, produced Silver. This specimen contains black, sectile Acanthite and associated with brown Chlorargyrite. This material assyed 1100 oz/t Silver.

This specimen, from the Homestake mine, is loaded with large 1.5cm anhedral Pyrite and striated, silvery Arsenopyrite crystals showing diamond-shaped outlines and measures up to 6mm and also large massesto 2cm. The matrix is the Homestake Fm, a chloritic schist. It is gold bearing but is not visible. Arsenopyrite when dissolved in HCl will yield tiny bits of Gold.

This specimen is from the Eskay Creek mine, a polymetallic deposit, in British Columbia. Once operated by Homestake and Barrick mining companies the mine produced 3.3 million ounces of gold and 160 million ounces of silver at average grades of 45 g/t gold and 2,224 g/t silver from 1994 -2008.  It is now owned by Skeena Gold Company, who states: "Eskay Creek is renowned for being one of the highest-grade and lowest-cost open-pit precious metal mines globally. Additionally, estimated silver by-product production will surpass many primary silver mines". They are scheduled to be back online and mining in 2027. Ore specimen of Bornite with Pyrite. Butte, of course, being one of the largest Copper producing mines in the world. It is no longer in operation.

Bornite carries up to 63% copper. It is a copper red when fresh, but quickly tarnishes to a dark purplish black and often iridescent.
