I can't say much about the photos, but the specimen is magnificent. It is a huge blue Topaz crystal from the Chris van Laer collection. It's hardly gemmy, but internally fractured. The cyrstal has four faces with a typical pryamidal face of Topaz. I am not sure if Chris collected this specimen, but his label clearly states it is from the Lord Hill pegmatite.

This is a large, heavy specimen of brecciated andesite flooded with black tourmaline during the mineralization. It is sawed and polishd on one side. It is fascinating to look at all the different angular clasts which range in size from 2 to 60mm. Sulfides can be seen replacing some of the clasts and as fine disseminations and thin 1mm or less veinlets.

The Blue Bird was mined for Silver, but also produced gold, copper, lead, zinc and antimony from 1887 to 1957.
