Gadolinite was discovered in 1787 in Ytterby, Sweden and was found to contain the first rare-earth elements cerium and yttrium. This specimen contains a 3mm crystal grain at the red arrow. The deposit is a rare-earth pegmatite with amazonite, also contained in the specimen.
