Chalcocyanite is very hygroscopic mineral, meaning it loves to absorb water from the atmosphere, and thus the sealed in a vial. The substance powdery white, but the mineral can be light blue. In fact, the name Chalcocyanite is derived from the Greek word for blue. Chalcocyanite is a sublimate product found near volcanic fumaroles.

Type Locality 

A large vial filled with granular orange, moist, Erythrosiderite and Molysite. Both minerals are iron chlorides and first found at Vesuvius. Lobley in 1889 reported in his book "Mount Vesuvius" that fine Erythrosiderite crystals were found in the sublimates after the great eruption in 1872. This vial is sealed which locked in the moisture and is dated 1926!
