Franklinite

Locality
Sterling Hill mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex Co., New Jersey, United States
Formula
ZnFe3+2O4
Availability
Sold
Size
5 x 5 x 3 cm - Miniature

Brilliant, flashy Franklinite crystals to 1mm showing multiple modified crystal forms with acicular, colorless Willemite, and light yellow Barite crystals. The Barite crystals are not all that spectacular and are sparse. According to the olf Gerstmann tag (se prov tab) wthe specimen should have Alleghanyite crystals. I do not see them, but I do not know Franklin very well. The specimn is very similar to the specimen of Modris Baum's under Alleghanyite on Mindat. On the back side there are white to colorless crystals that look like Calcite with needles of Willemite.
