Here's a chunk of Molybdenum ore from the famous Climax mine. It has thin veinlets of Molybdenite throughout the matrix.

The USA nad China holds the bulk of molybdenum reserves. US mine production has historically been a by-product of copper. According to the USGS commodity report, in 2014, molybdenum was produced from 13 mines. Moly was a primary product from three mines and a by-product of copper mining at the other 10 mines in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Montana from low-grade porphyry deposits. The Climax mine in Colorado is now the lone primary producer of molybdenum.
