This is an impressive LARGE specimen of lightweight, greasy feeling Graphite ore.

Graphite is used in brake linings, lubricants, and steelmaking. The USA did not produce any graphite in 2014 according to the USGS Commodity report. North America only produced 2% of the world's Graphite from Mexico and Canada. The U.S. imported natural Graphite from Mexico, China, Canada, Brazil, and Madagascar. Sri Lanka provided "lump" Graphite like this specimen. China produced 67% of the world's Graphite.
