This is a fairly good specimen of this rather rare barium-titanium silicate. Outside of California there are only two other reported localities in the world. This is the type locality. The crystals in this specimen are reach 5mm and are deep brownish red color.

This specimen contains Walstromite as tiny grains to masses greater than 6mm. One of the photos show the orange fluorescence and the concentrations of Walstromite throughout the matrix. Walstronite is a fairly common mineral at these deposits. Since it is white, like many of the minerals at Big Creek, the best identification tool for Walstromite is the orange fluorescence. It is the only mineral which will fluoresce orange. It is named after Robert Walstrom who originally found the mineral. A Carlton Davis collection tag accompanies the specimen (see prov. tab).
