tungsten

Large specimen with black tabular crystals of "wolframite" in the matrix. The specimen is very rich with crystals reaching 3cm long by 5mm in width. The green you see in this specimen is a green Quartz and Chrysocolla.

The specimen was collected in 1961 by Arnold Hampson. The locality is also known as just "Copper Mountain" or just the "Tungsten mine" and produced about 6 tons of tungsten ore in 1955. According to Northrop (Minerals of NM), museum quality specimens were once found. I consider this a museum quality specimen, a legacy piece from a long forgotten locality.
