A difficult subject to photo since the dark green Epidote competes with the platy Calcite for the light. It is an interesting specimen in that the Calcite forms thin colorless plates to over 1cm with divergent sprays of dark green Epidote to 8mm. With the Epidote and Calcite are tiny cubes of Pyrite. In the matrix is brownish yellow Prehnite.

Large pure white mass of Petalite, a rare lithium silicate formed in fractionated, lithium rich pegmatites such as this deposit, known as the Tanco pegmatite. Tanco is one of if not the largest zoned pegmatites in the world. This specimen was a numbered study specimen of Dr. David London, an expert pegmatologist and auther of the fabulous and very informative book simply titled "Pegmatites". Kicking around on any pegmatite dump you might pass this specimen off as plain Quartz.
