Antique Specimen

The specimen is mostly a solid leaf of Silver with a coating of Acanthite. This has good provenance with an old inked label stuck on the specimen and dated 1980. With it is a nice large label from the "Department of Mines Geological Survey" of Canada with a number matching the specimen (7720). Documentation of a specimen's history does not get better than this.

Really not much of a specimen as far as silver goes. But the specimen shows pervasive Silver crystal grains throughout the specimen with other sulfides, namely Acanthite. Both are in 1mm and less grains throughout the grey mass with a Quartz vein. The stuck on label gives good provenance, and any serious Nevada or mining history collector should have this in their collection.

A polished slab showing the excellent large crystal grains of ultramafic rock, which was usually magmatically differentiated by fractionation as it cooled i.e., the denser minerals settled first and cumulate at the base of the magma chamber. Numerous metallic crystals can be seen throughout the slab and measure from 1-5mm. These are the Braggite crystals. There is no doubt other platinum minerals in the specimen.

Lemon yellow, waxy, skeletal Chlorargyrite. The largest blob is 2.5mm. There is actually some crystallinity with the Chlorargyrite, but this is typical for the species. Only rarely will you find good crystals of Chlorargyrite. The matrix is somewhat "spongy" and filled with colorless to dark grey Cerussite.
