Type Locality

Tiny red blocky crystals to about 0.75mm in miarolitic cavities of rhyolite. This locality is one of three in the area and has not been found anywhere else in the world. Maxwellite, an arsenate of sodium & iron, is isostructural with titanite.

The locality is a tin occurence, one of the few in the USA with the potential for tin prodution. Only three shipments were made from the the district, known as the Black Range tin deposits in the Taylor Creek District. Shipments were each less than 1000 pounds, ost of which were cassiterite nuggets from placers. In-situ deposits were hosted in what is thought to be genetically related porphyritic rhyolite along fissure vents.
