Pearly white, platy crystals of Otavite with rich coverage on a limonitic and green crust with Rosasite and Aurite. There is one nice spray of Azurite. This is, according to the Gebhard label, type material from Schneider. Gebhard called this a co-type specimen. This is noted on Gebhard's label in the provenance tab. Otavite is an exceedingly rare mineral from Tsumeb. White cadmium bearing Smithsonite is often mistaken for Otavite. Once you see a real Otavite it is visually easy to discern the two. Otavite occurs as tiny submillimetric crystals with a distinct pearly luster unlike larger, whiter and dull cadmium Smithsonite.
