A large, heavy crystal group of Galena in which has several individual crystals to 5cm. It is a very impressive specimen with an overgrowth of excellent Marcasite crystals which average about 3mm each. The peice comes from one of the richest lead-zinc deposits ever mined, which is the Tri-State district of the US. Extra shipping may apply!

Superb spinel law twinned Galena flattened crystals - the twinning occurs on the octahedral face in which it is parallel to....why the crystals are flat, I do not know. Spinel, the mineral in which the twinning is common, does not flatten like this. Anyhow there are at least five good sized crystals to 2cm across. At the bass of the specimen are fantastic and lustrous black Sphalerite crystals. Very nice specimen.

This is probably a pretty good Galena for the this well-known, historic district. These are sharp cubic crystals with penetrating twins. The crystals are to 1.8cm. The very tip of the piece has a slight ding.

This is a good study specimen with a lot going on. The Pyrite pseudo after the Pyrrhotite is the cool thing. You can see that perched at the top and the dimension is 9mm across. The only other place I have seen this is here in the Black Hills at the Double Rainbow mine. One shot you can see the hexagonal outline of the former Pyrrhotite. Also the Galena maybe a spinel twin and has alot of jet black, lustorus Sphalerite crystals all over it.

This one is a natural beauty with good depth and eye appeal from all angles. The mineralogy is simple with frosted white Quartz on which cubo-octahedral Galena crystals have grown. They measure up to 9mm. Sprinkle around the specimen are tiny Chalcopyrite and pyrite crystals less than 1mm in size. It is a good pocket specmen.

This is a really interesting specimen. Both the Galena and the Sphalerite are display fascinating crystallization. The Galena crystals show an unusual prismatic habit and exhibit a melted look as they rise above the large flat mother crystal. The edges of some of the Galena crystals are smooth and not angular with hollows and skeletal growth. The larger Galena crystal is 2.5cm and Galena cluster on the opposite side is 1.5cm.
The Sphalerite is deep to light yellow-green with typical resinous luster and striations. Most of the Sphalerite is twinned on the [111] so they appear as if they are stacked like thin books. In fact, if you view this specimen at the right angle you will see that the entire assemblage is one giant crystal 3.5cm long. There are also some ordinary crystals of Sphalerite with octahedral faces.
