In prep for the upcoming Butte Special Edition, I was flipping through the 5 flats of material I have from Butte, all from Chris van Laers collection. I discovered this great petrological specimen which shows vein filling of pink Rhodochrosite in pegmatitic granite. The vein filling shows a little Quartz filling also and the granite is mineralized with sulfide, probably Pyrite. It is slightly polished on one side and unpolished on the other. It is a slab about 1cm thick.

A large specimen cut on one side which shows the unique crystallization of the Rhodochrosite as well as the inward growth patterns of the Galena and Sphalerite. Rhodochrosite is an ore of manganese and more can be learned from our Butte mine article.
