The late Art Smith acquired this specimen from David Seaman in the 1980's (see prov. tab). It is a nice representative specimen from this zoned pegmatite of "rubellite" elbaite tourmaline in colorless Pollucite. Mount Mica pegmatite can be classified as a poorly zoned Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum pegmatite. It was one of Maine's first gem mines and is a serial producer of gem quality tourmaline.

This is a dark green terminated Elbaite crystal. It is back lighted to show the color, otherwise it appears black in-hand. If you buy it, hold it against a white paper or up to a light. It is a very nice bottle green with darker green ends.

A large specimen of rubellite tourmaline, a variety of Elbaite with Pollucite. The Pollucite is very rich in this specimen and is basically all of the colorless Quartz-looking mineral. Rubellite contains about 3% rubidium and is commonly associated with the rare zeolite, Pollucite. Pollucite, the chief ore of cesium, contains about 43% cesium, although it is not that rich at Tanco.
Collected and studied by Dr. David London for his book titled "Pegmatites".

Elbaite, variety rubellite, crystals to 6mm shot up through colorless Pollucite and Microcline. Excellent specimen, smaller than the others, for a good representative specimen from this important pegmatite, the Tanco pegmatite. Tanco is one of the largest and most richest and productive pegmatites in the world.
