You will see on occassion Conichalcite like this specimen offered as "barthite". Barthite, however, is an obsolete name as research has shown that barthites are crystallized in discrete phases and not necessarily as a complete solid solution. Further, reports indicate that colorless Austinite is crystallized first and nearly pure Conichalcite is crystallized last. (MR V34, no. 5 pg 62). You would have to check with EDS all specimens to accurately nail down the chemistry and you would have to segregate the zones. We had Cannon check another specimen just like this one and the EDS showed Ca, Zn, Cu. This specimen may also be cuprian Austine.

This is a really neat specimen that looks like it's molding, with felty green cushions of Conichalcite with a second generation of translucent bright-green botryoidal Conichalcite.

Originally this mineral was called "Higginsite" after the locality and contained a small percentage of vanadium. It is now termed Conichalcite.

Bright green tiny clusters of Conichalcite with very good coverage on limonite matrix. Attractive specimen. There is nice Malachite and Calcite on the backside.
