A large and superbly complex tabular Wittichenite crystal with a goldish or brassy irridescent patina with a backside showing a negative growth pattern. Very fine crystal!
There is an upcoming paper on this occurence, which will be published in the Australian Journal of Minerals. These brilliant, large crystals were thought to be Chalcocite until 2008 when they were confirmed as Wittichenite. Additionally, because the largest (up to 44mm!) Wittichenite crystals were only briefly mined in the early 1980's, there is a very limited quantity available on the market, especially of this quality and size.
