Former Netherlands Antilles, Curacao

Size
8 x 5 x 4 cm - Sm Cabinet

Chalky white botryoidal mass of Phosphate. I wasn't able to find a whole lot of info on the phosphate mines of Curacao, but one website I found (email us for link in interested) mentions that the phosphate deposits were discovered in 1871 and where mined until the 1940's.

Size
6 x 2.5 x 4.5 cm - Sm Cabinet

Sample of a Pyroxenite, a general name given to a rock composed primarily of one or more Pyroxene minerals, which presumably contains microscopic Platinum Group Metals including Platinum and Palladium.
Although I couldn't find much on the Zwartsfontein locality itself, according to the USGS Mineral Yearbook 2009 South Africa produced 79% of the world's Platinum and produced 271,393 kg of PGM's in 2009 amounting to some $6.3 billion USD.

Platinum Group Metals

Chalcopyrite, Enstatite variety bronzite - #PD30642
Locality
Stillwater mine, Stillwater Co., Montana, United States
Availability
Sold
Size
8.5 x 4 x 2.5 cm - Sm Cabinet

The Stillwater Complex in south central Montana is typically thought of as a chromium producer. It is at that and is the largest in the country. It is also the primary palladium producer and the Johns-Manville Reef is the richest palladium deposit currently being exploited anywhere in the world (stillwaterpalladium.com). The mine produces a ratio of palladium:platinum of just over 3:1. Palladium is used in catalytic converters, fuel cells, hydrogen purification, electronics, jewelry, and dentistry. This specimen contains Platinum Group Metals in gabbro along with Chalcopyrite and Bronzite, a variety of Enstatite.

Ore Minerals

Large heavy Silver ore specimen rich with dark silver-black massive Pyrargyrite (Ruby Silver) with deep red internal color associated with Galena, Sphalerite, and Pyrite. The old label with this specimen mentions that this is a piece of high-grade ore.
In the Mineralogical Record's article on the Highland Bell Mine (20-6,p441) the silver lodes occur in brecciated Quartz veins in a mineralized zone approximately 6.4km E-W that is interrupted by numerous offset faults.

Ore Minerals

Cobalt district ores occur in distinct mineral assemblages as outlined by William Petruk in the 1971 publication "The Silver-Arsenides of the Cobalt-Gowganda Region, Ontario". This specimen fits well in group 2 of Petruk's which contain high Silver and Allargentum. It is sawed and polished on one side. The Silver is easily seen in matrix as well as the brassy luster of the Nickeline and Breithauptite.
