below are the popular Dakota Micro bags. This is about the fifth generation of micro bags Dakota Matrix has assembled. When we get collections, often we purchase them with an eye towards field collected material. The material is directly from the mines in the western USA. Sometimes, these localities are long forgotten about or popular localities, where good micro material was found. The collector, (in this case the Jungles) typically horded material and stored it in vintage egg cartons. The Jungles collected in Mexico and all over the US west during the 1950’s through the 1970’s. The material is usually full of excellent micro crystals. This generation of Dakota Micro Bags includes a lot of material from the Jungles collection, although you will also find some material from the Eaton, DeVito and Erling collections. The Jungles did a lot of their own micromounts, although they traded and purchased minerals too. Thus, like the field collected bonanza acquired in this collection, there was a lot of micromounts, unmounted pieces in little bags and containers of sorted material to be mounted but never was. We purchased this collection in October of 2008. We thought we would need a 6 foot trailer to haul it home. Instead we needed a 26 foot truck!

Dakota Micro bags are kind of a grab bag full of combinations of some of the following:
Envelopes: Which consist of small approximately 3x3 inch (8x8cm) paper envelopes with usually one to three (maybe more) small <1cm chips of miscellaneous micro minerals. You will get about 12 to 20 envelopes. These will be of many different minerals, some rare, from many localities.
Micromounts, Micro specimens in micromount boxes, thumbnail perky boxes, or small card board boxes (less than 1 inch). You will get a plastic sandwich bag loaded with these – probably 12 to 20 of them. All different minerals, many different localities.
Rough micro material. This will be where most of the weight comes from. You will get at least two plastic sandwich bags full of 1 to 2.5 inch (2 to 7cm) pieces. This portion of the Micro Bag is where all the fun will be for you. Most often, nothing is identified, but you will get specific and named localities.
Small 2-inch zip lock plastic bags with good, usually higher grade small pieces with good micro crystals, typically identified with locality information.
Shipping is only estimated in the shopping cart! These bags are heavy, so please expect cost to run about $10 to $40 per bag depending on weight and destination. Please inquire about shipping charges. Foreign orders will obviously cost more. You calculate the postage yourself by entering the posted weight and your State/country into the USPS website form .
