Redgillite with Langite(?) #20946
Red Gill mine, Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria, England
Micro crystals of Redgillite to 0.1 mm.
Chemical Formula: Cu6(OH)10(SO4)•H2O
Size: Thumbnail

You would think that this mine was type locality for Redgillite. However, it is not. It may be the only mineral with that distinction. The type locality is the Silver Gill mine, but it is named after the Red Gill mine "for which it is best known" according to the author's Pluth, Steele, Kampf and Green. On this specimen, Redgillite occurs as tiny, fibrous green crystals and is more abundant than the sky blue Langite(?).

Overall: 2 x 1.5 x 1 cm
Sold
$200.00
